Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Ewig apps for Mac, iPhone and iPad and the Ewig browser extensions for Safari and Chrome (“Ewig”, “the app”, “we”, “us”) handle your information. We have designed Ewig to be private by default.

The short version

Ewig does not collect any user data. There are no accounts, no analytics, and no servers of our own. Everything you save is stored as plain files on your device or in your own iCloud Drive. The only libraries used are those provided by Apple.

Information we collect

We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information. Ewig has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking.

Where your data lives

The content you save with Ewig, including bookmarks, page snapshots, PDFs, screenshots, notes, and folders, is stored locally on your device and, if you choose to enable it, in your own personal iCloud account. This data stays under your control. We never receive a copy of it and we cannot access it.

If you use iCloud, your data is handled by Apple under Apple’s own terms and privacy policy. We do not operate any servers of our own and we do not store your data anywhere ourselves.

When you save from a browser extension or a share sheet, a small record (the URL, title, note and archive options) is placed in your own private iCloud database so your other devices can pick it up. Apple handles it under iCloud’s terms. We never see it.

The browser extensions

The Ewig extension for Safari and the Ewig extension for Chrome (and Chromium browsers) read the URL and title of the page you are on, to show what is about to be saved and whether it is already in your archive. When you save, they hand the URL, title, collection, note and archive options to the Ewig app on the same device. The extensions make no network requests of their own and contact no server.

The Chrome extension can send the current site’s cookies to the Ewig app on your Mac, so it can archive a page that sits behind a login. This happens only when you turn on “Include this site’s cookies” for a save; it is off by default. The cookies travel to your Mac over a local channel, are never sent to a server, and are not stored by the extension.

Third-party libraries

Ewig does not use any external or third-party software libraries, advertising kits, or analytics SDKs. It relies only on frameworks provided by Apple as part of the operating system.

Children’s privacy

Ewig is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

Ewig does not collect any user data today. If we ever update Ewig in a way that changes how information is handled, we will update this policy and revise the “Last updated” date above. Any future data collection would be described here before or at the time it takes effect.
