Browser Extensions
The best archive is the one you actually fill. Ewig lives one click from every page you read, in whichever browser you read it.
Safari (Mac & iOS)
The Safari extension ships inside the app, no separate download.
- Mac: Safari → Settings → Extensions → enable Ewig.
- iPhone / iPad: Settings → Apps → Safari → Extensions → enable Ewig, or use the puzzle-piece icon in Safari’s address bar.
Click the toolbar icon to save the current page. A popup lets you tweak the title, add a note, and pick (or create) a collection before saving. Tabs you’ve already archived get a badge.
Chrome, Brave, Edge & Arc
Chromium browsers talk to Ewig through a local native-messaging bridge, straight to the app on your Mac. No cloud relay, no extension account.
The extension isn’t on the Chrome Web Store yet, so you install it by hand; it takes about a minute:
- In Ewig’s onboarding (or Settings → Extensions), export the Chrome extension folder.
- Open
chrome://extensions(or your browser’s equivalent) and enable Developer mode (top-right toggle). - Click Load unpacked and select the exported extension folder. The Ewig icon appears in your toolbar; pin it for one-click saving.
The same steps work in Chrome, Brave, Edge and Arc. Onboarding registers the native-messaging bridge automatically, so the extension finds the app on first use. Optionally, it can pass the page’s cookies along with a save so pages behind a login archive correctly.
Chrome Web Store distribution is planned; once it lands, updates will install like any other extension.
Share extensions (Mac & iOS)
Anywhere you can share a URL, you can save it: choose Save to Ewig from the share sheet on iPhone, iPad or Mac. The snapshot and screenshot are captured right on that device.
Troubleshooting
- Extension can’t find the app: launch Ewig once on the Mac; the bridge registers on startup.
- Save shows as Pending: the snapshot engine queues captures; give it a moment, or retry from the card’s context menu.
- A logged-in page archived as a login screen: enable cookie pass in the extension options and save again.
