Why doesn’t Ewig have tags?

On purpose. Ewig has one organizing idea: collections, which are real folders on disk. Everything has to survive outside the app; tags would live only in the index, and the index is disposable. Folders show up in Finder; tags wouldn’t.

There’s also a simpler reason: tags invite endless taxonomy gardening. Is it #swift or #swiftlang? One folder, one place, done. For everything else there’s search: ⌘K finds bookmarks by title, domain, URL and note, and operators like site: and has:note cover most of what tags are used for.

How does Ewig make money?

It doesn’t, and that’s not a trick. Ewig is free with no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no ads, and no data to sell (we never receive any).

Ewig is a personal project by XY.CO; we’re the kind of people who never want to lose a page again. XY earns its money on other projects, which leaves Ewig free to be what it should be: a great archive, not a funnel.

Who is behind Ewig?

Ewig is made by XY.CO. It’s a small passion project, built and cared for by hand rather than by committee.

Will it stay free?

That’s the plan. And because your archive is plain files on disk, you’re never dependent on that promise: even if Ewig disappeared tomorrow, every snapshot you’ve saved still opens in any browser.

What if I want to leave?

Take your folder and go; it’s yours. For bookmark lists, export to Netscape HTML, JSON or CSV any time. No account to close, no export fee, no hostage data.
