Getting Started

Five minutes from install to your first permanent snapshot. No account, no sign-up, just a folder that starts filling with pages you’ll never lose.

Install Ewig

Download Ewig from the App Store. It’s free, no in-app purchases, and it’s one app at one link: the same download covers Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, all in sync through your own iCloud.

Snapshots are captured on the device you save from: Mac, iPhone or iPad each make the full offline HTML copy and screenshot themselves. If a save can’t happen right away (say, from the Watch), it queues as pending and archives in the background.

Choose where your archive lives

On first launch, Ewig asks one question: where should your archive live?

  • iCloud Drive (recommended): your archive syncs to all your devices as real files, visible in Files and Finder. Ewig uses your iCloud, not a third-party server.
  • Local folder: everything stays on your Mac. Zero cloud involvement, same features.

Either way, the archive is a plain folder you can open and read yourself. See Your Archive on Disk for what’s inside.

Enable the browser extensions

Onboarding walks you through enabling the Safari extension and, if you use Chrome, Brave, Edge or Arc, installing the Chrome-family extension. It’s the fastest way to save: one click on the toolbar icon and the page is kept. Details in Browser Extensions.

Save your first bookmark

Any of these works:

  • Click the Ewig icon in your browser’s toolbar.
  • Use Share → Save to Ewig from any app on Mac or iOS.
  • Press ⌘N in the app and paste a URL.
  • Pipe one in from the terminal: pbpaste | ewig add.

New bookmarks land in Unsorted, your inbox. Ewig captures a self-contained HTML snapshot and a full-page screenshot straight away. Once the card shows Archived, the page is yours forever.
